Author Health Expands Specialized Senior Mental Care to PA and NJ

Pennsylvania and New Jersey are facing a looming mental health crisis, with psychiatrist shortages projected to hit 61% and 59% respectively by 2030. To combat this, Author Health is entering both states, bringing a specialized, tech-enabled care model designed to serve Medicare and Special Needs Plan recipients.

The provider targets the growing gap in behavioral health access by integrating psychiatry, therapy, and care management directly with a patient's existing primary care services. This approach aims to stabilize patients dealing with dementia, substance use disorders, and complex mental health conditions. By focusing on these populations, the company seeks to reduce the frequency of preventable emergency room visits and inpatient hospitalizations.

Dr. Katherine Hobbs, CEO at Author Health, noted that the expansion is critical for patients navigating complex conditions who require a holistic treatment plan. The company reports that in existing markets like Florida, Texas, and Arizona, its model has achieved an 80% monthly retention rate, with 70% of patients experiencing clinically significant improvements. Following its recent launches in Indiana and Illinois, the addition of Pennsylvania and New Jersey brings the company’s total operational footprint to seven states.
