Local Youth and Law Enforcement to Connect at Badges for Baseball

On July 16, Nymeo Field will transform into a community hub as local children and police officers pair up for the fourth annual Badges for Baseball event. The full-day clinic aims to bridge gaps between youth and first responders through sports, shared meals, and collaborative STEM activities in Frederick.

Organized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Frederick County in partnership with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the Frederick Keys, the event balances athletic drills with educational engagement. Participants will rotate through baseball and softball stations before observing a K-9 presentation and a Maryland State Police helicopter demonstration. Beyond the field, a mobile STEM lab will be on-site to highlight the importance of teamwork and communication, building on the permanent Ripken STEM Centers established at the club in 2022.

The initiative draws significant support from local leadership, including Mayor Michael O'Connor and County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, alongside representatives from the Frederick City Police and the Sheriff's Department. Presented by Nymeo Federal Credit Union and Leidos Biomedical Research, the program reinforces the club's ongoing mission to provide accessible development opportunities to area youth. The day concludes at 2:30 pm following a series of Quickball games, marking another chapter in the organization's effort to foster positive, lasting relationships between law enforcement and the next generation.
