The Stamford-based pharmaceutical company, which officially began operations on May 1, 2026, recruited Goettler for his three decades of industry experience. Dr. Norbert Riedel, Chairman of the Board, cited Goettler’s background in scaling global organizations at major firms like Pfizer and Sanofi as the primary catalyst for his selection. Beyond his executive duties, Goettler will join the company’s Board of Directors as its fifth member.
Knoa Pharma Names Former Viatris CEO Michael Goettler to Lead Firm
Michael Goettler takes the helm as President and CEO of Knoa Pharma starting July 6, stepping into a specialized role at a company founded just two months ago to combat the opioid crisis. His appointment marks a strategic move to stabilize the firm’s mission of balancing analgesic distribution with overdose prevention.
Goettler arrives from Viatris, where he served as CEO. His transition to Knoa Pharma represents a shift toward a mission-driven business model, as the company operates under the ownership of a not-for-profit foundation. The firm focuses on both the distribution of opioid analgesics and the expansion of access to overdose reversal treatments. Goettler holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the Koblenz School of Corporate Management, bringing an international leadership perspective to the organization’s ongoing public health efforts.
