Valvoline Targets European Market With Engine-Cleaning Lubricant

As European motorists hold onto aging vehicles longer than ever, Valvoline Global Operations is launching Restore & Protect, a motor oil engineered to reverse engine degradation. The product aims to tackle the internal buildup of deposits and sludge that typically accumulates over high-mileage use, promising to restore peak performance.

The lubricant utilizes two proprietary systems: Active-Clean Technology, which dissolves existing engine residues, and Liqui-Shield Technology, which acts as a barrier against future accumulation. According to internal testing, the formula is capable of removing up to 99% of piston deposits and 78% of engine sludge when used consistently over four consecutive oil changes. This launch addresses a practical need, as the average age of vehicles on European roads currently sits at 12.7 years.

Samuel Raudales, Valvoline’s senior vice president for EMEA, noted that the product is intended to provide drivers with a proactive maintenance tool rather than a passive component. The formulation has been adapted to meet specific regional requirements, including ACEA and API performance standards for both gasoline and diesel engines. Beyond consumer use, the company intends for the product to serve as a value-added service for mechanics, positioning the oil change as a restorative engine treatment. Valvoline will further promote this technology during the 2026 British Grand Prix, where it will highlight its partnership with the Aston Martin Formula One Team.
