The acquisition from GCA Holdings LLC, backed by Lotus Infrastructure Partners and MB Energy, adds a significant asset to Yara’s portfolio with an expected nameplate capacity of 1.3 million metric tons per annum. By integrating this plant, Yara aims to bolster its midstream ammonia platform, providing a reliable supply for both internal fertilizer production and external industrial customers. The deal includes the ammonia synthesis loop and storage infrastructure, while long-term utility needs—including hydrogen and nitrogen—will be met through a contract with Air Products.
Yara International to Acquire Gulf Coast Ammonia Plant for $1.3 Billion
Yara International ASA has agreed to acquire the Gulf Coast Ammonia production facility in Texas City for $1.3 billion, a move designed to diversify the Norwegian company’s energy exposure and strengthen its competitive standing in the global ammonia market as the facility ramps toward full production by late 2026.
Svein Tore Holsether, President and CEO of Yara, noted that the investment enhances operational resilience during a period of volatile energy costs. The company plans to leverage its century of industry experience to optimize the plant's performance, targeting production levels that meet or exceed nameplate capacity. Financial analysts expect the transaction to align with Yara’s existing capital allocation framework, maintaining a disciplined balance sheet while accelerating cash flows from new production capacity. Completion remains subject to standard regulatory approvals.
