Cisco to Equip 90,000 Employees With Personalized AI Agents

Starting this July, Cisco will integrate a custom AI agent into the workflow of every one of its 90,000 employees. The initiative marks a significant shift in corporate operations, moving beyond simple automation to provide each staff member with a personalized assistant capable of executing complex tasks and answering technical queries.

CFO Mark Patterson describes this shift as the most profound technological transition in his 26-year tenure at the firm. Rather than relying on a single third-party provider, the company has developed its own AI infrastructure. This proprietary system intelligently selects the most effective model for specific tasks, balancing efficiency with direct control over operational costs.

The impact is already visible within the finance department, where AI now generates 80% to 90% of the initial drafts for mandatory narrative reporting. Beyond document preparation, the company has deployed an investor relations tool that analyzes historical financial data against competitor earnings calls to predict analyst inquiries. Patterson himself utilizes a "CFO cockpit" dashboard, which synthesizes performance data across regions and product lines to forecast business trajectories and recommend strategic interventions.

While Cisco built its reputation on networking hardware, the company has aggressively retooled its portfolio for the AI era. This transformation includes a heavy focus on ultra-fast data center networking, custom silicon, and security tools designed specifically for AI workloads. Investors appear to be responding favorably to this pivot, as Cisco’s stock has climbed approximately 52% over the past year.
