The study of 5,139 fans across ten markets reveals that 77% of supporters now favor the comfort of their own home for sporting events. However, this shift has turned the kitchen into a high-stress zone. Preparing food on time and managing post-match cleanup are the primary pain points, each cited by 22% of respondents. Keeping beverages cold and struggling with limited refrigerator capacity also rank among the top frustrations for those trying to host while keeping an eye on the scoreboard.
Kitchen multitasking costs fans the winning goal
Eight in ten sports fans have missed a pivotal moment of a match due to kitchen duties, according to new research from Beko. As home-based viewing becomes the preferred way to engage with live sports, the pressure to balance food preparation with the action on screen is creating a modern hosting dilemma.
Refrigerators are the undisputed MVP of matchday, with 42% of fans identifying them as their most-used appliance. The reliance on these units is so intense that 27% of hosts admit to rearranging shelves to squeeze in extra drinks, while over half have resorted to using the freezer for rapid chilling. Younger demographics are driving this trend; fans aged 25–34 are twice as likely to host social viewing parties compared to those over 55. To cope with the demands, nearly 75% of fans begin their preparation days in advance, signaling a move toward more deliberate and organized event planning. Beko’s Global Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer Ragıp Balcıoğlu noted that intelligent appliances, such as those utilizing AI to learn usage patterns and optimize cooling, are designed to alleviate these pressures and keep hosts connected to the game.
