Founded in 1997, K&L has carved out a niche in the asset-light third-party logistics market, focusing on time-sensitive and temperature-controlled freight for high-stakes sectors like Life Sciences and Energy. The firm maintains a curated network of vetted carriers, an operational model that has allowed it to remain lean while scaling its reach. This acquisition follows two recent strategic bolt-ons by K&L designed to diversify its service offerings and broaden its customer base.
Argosy Private Equity Takes Controlling Stake in K&L Freight
St. Charles-based logistics provider K&L Freight Management has entered a new chapter as Argosy Private Equity secures a controlling interest in the firm. The deal integrates K&L’s specialized, mission-critical shipping operations into the portfolio of the Wayne, Pennsylvania-based private equity house, marking a significant shift for the three-decade-old company.

Leadership remains a constant during this transition. K&L’s senior management team is reinvesting in the business alongside Argosy, signaling a commitment to the company's existing culture and service standards. Founder Russell Gallemore highlighted the alignment of values between the two firms, while President Pat Draut noted that the partnership will emphasize the same blend of personal engagement and technology that has defined the company since its inception. Seth Wilson, a partner at Argosy, stated that the firm plans to leverage its experience in professionalizing founder-owned enterprises to drive the next stage of growth for the logistics provider.
