The collaboration centers on an industrial-scale organocatalyzed asymmetric Povarov cyclization, a process used to manufacture the chiral tetrahydroquinoline core required for obicetrapib, an investigational treatment for dyslipidemia. Beyond the significant reduction in waste and cycle time, the new manufacturing route lowered production costs by approximately 50% compared to traditional methods.
Cambrex and Partners Earn Green Chemistry Honors
By slashing process mass intensity by 80% and cutting manufacturing cycles by nearly three-quarters, Snapdragon Chemistry and NewAmsterdam Pharma have redefined efficiency in drug production. This breakthrough, focused on the synthesis of obicetrapib, earned the duo the American Chemical Society’s 2026 Green Chemistry Challenge Award.

Cambrex is concurrently advancing its broader environmental agenda across its global network. Its Milan facility recently secured an EcoVadis Gold rating, ranking it within the top 5% of companies for ethical and environmental performance. This achievement aligns with the company’s stated goal to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Furthermore, Q1 Scientific, a Cambrex subsidiary, has finalized a corporate power purchase agreement with Flogas. By sourcing renewable electricity from the Cronalaght Wind Farm, the Waterford site will now meet half of its energy demand through wind power, marking another step in the firm’s transition toward sustainable manufacturing.
