The wedding industry, a $100 billion sector in the U.S., is undergoing a rapid shift as couples increasingly rely on generative AI. According to the 2026 Wedding Industry AI Visibility Index, 36% of engaged couples now use AI to plan their ceremonies, nearly double the previous year's rate. This technological pivot has effectively centralized the vendor consideration process, funneling users toward platforms that have secured top-tier search citations.
The Knot Worldwide maintains its grip through a combination of its flagship brand and WeddingWire, holding a combined 20% citation share. The integration of a dedicated app within ChatGPT earlier this year further cemented this position, ensuring that many AI-driven queries prioritize Knot-owned surfaces. While Zola remains the primary independent challenger with a 9.5% share, smaller businesses face a significant barrier to entry. Research indicates that across 65 common planning prompts, the vast majority of independent photographers, florists, and venues fail to appear in AI-generated responses at all.
