The smart home was meant to empower residents, but it often functions as an invasive data-harvesting tool reliant on external servers. Phoenix-based startup One Raven is challenging this model with a new platform that keeps all device intelligence and user data strictly local, backed by a $5 million seed round.
The $5 million investment, led by Fifth Wall, will accelerate the production of the server and the company’s proprietary hardware suite. Fifth Wall founder Brendan Wallace, who joins the board, pointed to the growing consumer fatigue toward subscription-heavy devices as a primary driver for the firm's second partnership with Haldeman and Roudybush. As privacy concerns mount—with 81% of Americans expressing unease over corporate data collection—One Raven seeks to position itself as a transparent alternative for homeowners who want modern automation without the digital surveillance. The company plans to announce its first residential builder partnerships later this year.
