The program centered on the design and successful static firing of an HLG 10-inch prototype. Beyond the hardware, Ursa Major developed a proprietary propellant and refined its "Lynx" manufacturing process. By utilizing Highly Loaded Grain and emphasizing subsystem commonality, the company aims to slash tooling costs and production lead times for future naval hardware.
Ursa Major Finalizes Navy Rocket Motor Program
A $25 million cost-share initiative between Ursa Major, the U.S. Navy, and the Office of Strategic Capital reached its conclusion this February. The project successfully validated a modular manufacturing path for 10-inch solid rocket motors, marking a significant step in efforts to bolster the domestic defense industrial base.

CEO Chris Spagnoletti described the partnership as a blueprint for scaling defense production at speed. The initiative involved deep integration with the Naval Air Weapons Center at China Lake and the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Indian Head to ensure the resulting architecture meets specific operational requirements. Having completed this pathfinder phase, the Colorado-based firm is now positioned to ramp up production to meet the Navy's broader demand for missile and rocket propulsion systems.
