Copia Power operates a specialized model that co-locates energy generation, high-voltage transmission, and data center load at single interconnection points. This strategy bypasses standard interconnection queues, offering a faster route to deployment for hyperscalers. The company currently manages over 2.6 GW of assets in operation or construction, with a development pipeline exceeding 25 GW of solar and storage alongside 7 GW of natural gas capacity.
EQT Acquires Copia Power to Accelerate AI-Driven Energy Infrastructure
Energy has become the primary bottleneck for artificial intelligence development, prompting EQT Infrastructure VII to acquire Copia Power from Carlyle. The deal positions EQT to control a massive pipeline of integrated energy campuses, aiming to solve the critical shortage of grid-connected power required for large-scale data center operations.

For EQT, the acquisition serves as a strategic cornerstone for its expanding U.S. AI infrastructure portfolio, which already includes investments in EdgeConneX, Zayo, and Cypress Creek Energy. By integrating Copia’s campuses with its existing digital and fiber assets, EQT intends to offer a comprehensive solution to utility providers and tech firms struggling with grid constraints. Ray Henger, CEO of Copia Power, noted that the partnership will scale the company’s ability to align generation and transmission with urgent market demand. The transaction, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to close by the end of 2026.
