Valion Bio pivots to integrated platform model with manufacturing push

Valion Bio is transitioning from a single-asset developer into an integrated biotechnology platform, leveraging a 200-fold manufacturing scale-up at its Velocity Bioworks subsidiary to anchor its biodefense pipeline and planned expansion into oncology supportive care, according to an update from the company on July 14, 2026.

Valion Bio pivots to integrated platform model with manufacturing push

The San Antonio-based firm is deepening its focus on government preparedness by maintaining active engagement with U.S. agencies—including BARDA, NIAID, and the Department of War—regarding the potential inclusion of its Entolimod program in the Strategic National Stockpile. The company is simultaneously pursuing international interest, specifically following a request for information from Ukraine's Ministry of Health regarding the evaluation of Entolimod for national reserves.

Central to this strategy is the recent 50-liter fermentation scale-up at Velocity Bioworks, which Valion Bio estimates can produce approximately 1.3 million human doses. By bringing manufacturing in-house, the company aims to secure its supply chain and potentially generate auxiliary revenue through third-party CDMO services. Beyond biodefense, CEO Michael K. Handley is steering the platform toward oncology, with upcoming physician-sponsored studies targeting neutropenia and the continued development of the TLR5 agonist Entolasta. With over $140 million already invested in its core technology, the company is now shifting its focus from pure research to the disciplined execution of regulatory pathways under the FDA Animal Rule.
