Local fire departments and emergency management agencies across West Virginia can now apply for grants of up to $1,000 to cover critical equipment and training costs. West Virginia American Water opened the 2026 program this week, continuing a decade-long initiative that has already distributed over $157,000 to regional first responders.

Since its inception in 2013, the initiative has supported 185 projects throughout the state. Interested organizations must ensure their applications are postmarked or emailed by August 3, with successful recipients scheduled for notification by August 31.
