Dr. Raymond Douglas Administers First US Dose of New TED Therapy

In a milestone for thyroid eye disease treatment, Beverly Hills specialist Raymond Douglas, MD, PhD, has become the first physician in the United States to administer the newly FDA-approved infusion therapy, LUMVOA. The treatment marks a shift in care, offering a new option for patients across both active and chronic stages.

Viridian Therapeutics launched LUMVOA (veligrotug-vvze) in late June 2026, positioning it as the second FDA-approved drug for thyroid eye disease (TED). Unlike previous medical interventions that relied heavily on corticosteroids or surgical procedures, this targeted therapy demonstrated significant success in clinical trials regarding diplopia response and complete resolution of double vision. For the estimated population suffering from proptosis and inflammation, the drug’s labeling is notable for covering both active and chronic disease states.

Dr. Douglas, who previously helped shape the field with the adoption of earlier biologics, views this rollout as a critical expansion of medical management. To mitigate the common hurdles of insurance navigation, his practice utilizes a specialized care coordination team led by Karen Mullen. This unit manages prior authorizations and benefits investigations, aiming to shield patients from the administrative burden of accessing high-acuity care. The practice continues to operate as a dedicated center for complex orbital and autoimmune eye conditions.
