MDT Targets Long-Life Wearables With 50nA Magnetic Switch IC

With a maximum supply current of just 50nA, MultiDimension Technology’s new TMR1370 magnetic switch aims to solve the power constraints of continuous glucose monitoring devices. The sensor allows for over two years of standby operation, addressing the critical balance between battery longevity and active monitoring performance.

MDT Targets Long-Life Wearables With 50nA Magnetic Switch IC

The TMR1370 integrates into the company’s existing magnetic sensing lineup, specifically targeting the evolving needs of medical wearable designers. By drawing approximately 30nA at a 3V supply, the device enables systems to remain dormant for extended periods without draining capacity needed for glucose tracking once the device is activated. This efficiency stems from a proprietary Tunneling Magnetoresistance platform that optimizes both sensor architecture and wafer processing.

Designed for compact, thin medical hardware, the chip comes in a 1.6×1.6×0.5mm DFN5L package. It supports an operating voltage range of 1.8V to 4.0V and offers an operating point below 40 Gauss, ensuring consistent wake-up detection. The component complements MDT's previous X-axis and Z-axis series, allowing engineers to migrate existing designs to the new power-efficient architecture while maintaining layout flexibility. Samples are currently available through DigiKey and the manufacturer's direct online store.
