Altus Dental Targets Oral Healthcare Gaps via MassChallenge
By embedding itself into the 2026 MassChallenge Healthcare program, Altus Dental is shifting its strategy from traditional insurance toward direct technological intervention. The insurer has tapped two startups to tackle the persistent barrier of dental care access, specifically targeting underserved Medicaid populations through automation and virtual clinical triage.

Jennifer Rousseau, Altus Dental’s Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, noted that the collaboration focuses on practical outcomes rather than theoretical research. By connecting with startups, the insurer aims to bridge the gap in affordable care that currently leaves many Medicaid participants without consistent options. Altus Dental joins a cohort of institutional partners including Eli Lilly and MassMutual, signaling a broader industry trend toward outsourcing innovation to solve systemic healthcare access issues. The company intends to maintain a mentorship role as both startups move toward commercial scaling.
