Haier Biomedical Shifts to Full-Process Digital Blood Management

The company showcased its transition through real-world deployments, most notably at the New Arcispedale Sant’Anna Hospital in Ferrara, Italy. By replacing manual tracking and paper logs with R-Series Automated Blood Management Refrigerators, the facility achieved near-instant blood retrieval and automated cross-matching. The system utilizes RFID technology to eliminate human error, providing full traceability from the moment of collection to the bedside.

Automation specialist Daniele Pericolini and product manager Zhou Weidong detailed how these smart refrigerators function across diverse international environments, including Brazil’s HemoRio Blood Bank and the Asia Pacific Medical Center in the Philippines. These units integrate directly into existing workflows without requiring additional software, enabling real-time inventory monitoring and ozone sterilization. Currently, Haier Biomedical’s U-Blood solutions are active in dozens of countries, ranging from Germany and Thailand to Zambia and Kenya, moving the transfusion industry toward a fully distributed, digitally connected model.
