The airline's performance reflects a broader shift in its commercial strategy. Managed business revenues reached an all-time quarterly high, climbing 30% year-over-year, while the Rapid Rewards loyalty program hit a record size of nearly 100 million members. This engagement, bolstered by a 28% increase in co-branded credit card acquisitions, has provided the carrier with a diverse set of revenue levers to offset volatile operating expenses.
Southwest Airlines Posts Record Revenue as Transformation Takes Hold
Southwest Airlines reported record operating revenues of $8.4 billion for the second quarter of 2026, signaling the first full period with the carrier's new transformational initiatives in place. Despite a nearly $900 million surge in fuel costs, the company achieved significant margin expansion and growth across its core business segments.

CEO Bob Jordan highlighted that the company is now focused on optimizing its network and product offerings to unlock full earnings potential. While the airline faces a headwind from recent fleet adjustments—including removing six seats from its Boeing 737-700 aircraft to install extra legroom—it maintains a positive outlook. Southwest expects full-year adjusted earnings per share between $3.25 and $4.25, supported by disciplined capacity management and ongoing cost controls.
