Marinello, who earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from WesternU in 2025, brings extensive clinical and academic experience to the role. His background includes service as an emergency department nurse at Loma Linda University Health and work as a family nurse practitioner in urgent care. Since joining the university faculty in 2018, he has directed the Master of Science in Nursing-Entry program and managed the college’s Simulation Center.

His leadership has already proven pivotal in the university's regional growth. Marinello co-led the expansion efforts that secured initial approval from the Oregon State Board of Nursing and helped forge clinical partnerships with Samaritan Health Services, Salem Health, and Providence Health & Services. These collaborations are designed to ensure the curriculum directly addresses the workforce requirements of the Pacific Northwest.

The upcoming MSN-E program offers an accelerated route for professionals with bachelor's degrees in other fields to transition into nursing. By leveraging his experience in program development and community engagement, Marinello aims to position the Lebanon site as a central hub for workforce development. According to Provost Paula Crone, his appointment reflects the university's strategy to bolster interprofessional education and meet the increasing demand for skilled health care professionals across the state.
