Starting in 2028, the Valencia facility will produce a diverse lineup of vehicles, including a new member of the Ford Bronco family, a Ford multi-energy crossover, and two electric SUVs under the Geely brand. Production of the Ford Kuga will continue at the site without interruption. This collaboration aims to leverage the scale of both automakers, with Ford holding a 66% stake in the entity and Geely controlling 34%.
Ford and Geely Launch Manufacturing Joint Venture in Spain
Ford Motor Company and Geely Auto have announced a strategic joint venture to transform Ford’s Valencia plant into a shared high-tech manufacturing hub. The partnership seeks to navigate Europe’s tightening emissions regulations and intense competition by pooling production capacity to achieve a new global cost benchmark for multi-energy vehicles.
By integrating their engineering and manufacturing expertise, the companies intend to maximize the plant's annual capacity of approximately 500,000 vehicles. For Ford, this move is part of a broader strategy to introduce five new passenger vehicles to the European market by 2029. For Geely, the venture provides a critical foothold for expansion in Europe, building on a history of cooperation between the firms that dates back to Ford’s 2010 sale of Volvo Cars to the Chinese manufacturer. Operations are expected to commence in the first half of 2027, pending final regulatory approval.
