Eagle Financial Services Reports Q2 Profit Boosted by Asset Sale

Eagle Financial Services, the holding company for Bank of Clarke, reported a consolidated net income of $4.98 million for the second quarter of 2026, bolstered by a one-time pre-tax gain of $3.5 million from the sale of its interest in Bearing Insurance Group.

While the quarterly results reflect a significant gain, core performance faced headwinds from rising credit loss provisions. When excluding the one-time sale, adjusted net income for the quarter stood at $2.2 million, a decline from the $3.7 million reported in the first quarter of 2026. This downward shift was driven primarily by a $3.2 million provision for credit losses, a sharp increase from $2.0 million in the previous quarter, largely tied to new nonaccrual multifamily loan allocations and proactive write-downs.

Despite these credit pressures, the bank saw operational progress, with net interest margin climbing to 3.86% from 3.63% in the first quarter. This improvement followed the complete paydown of Federal Home Loan Bank advances and a strategic reduction in higher-cost deposits. Net loans grew by $39.5 million, or 2.74%, during the period, signaling robust demand in the company’s core commercial lending segments. In light of the quarter's performance, the Board of Directors declared a cash dividend of $0.31 per share, payable on August 14, 2026.
