Jeff Bezos Pushes Prime Video Toward AI-Driven Feed

A contentious meeting between Jeff Bezos and Prime Video chief Mike Hopkins has sparked an internal overhaul dubbed Project Lighthouse. Seeking tangible returns on Amazon’s massive $200 billion capital investment in infrastructure, the founder is demanding a complete redesign that centers AI algorithms over static promotional tiles.

The initiative aims to pivot the platform from a conventional grid layout to a dynamic, real-time feed tailored to individual viewing habits. Bezos reportedly pressured executives to move AI-driven recommendations from secondary menus to the primary user interface, ensuring the technology remains the focal point of the streaming experience. This shift threatens to disrupt the current ecosystem of paid studio placements, which rely heavily on prime home-screen real estate to capture audience attention.

Michael Goodman, director of entertainment research at Parks Associates, noted that reallocating this valuable space would represent a significant departure from standard industry practices. While the project remains in the testing phase with a select group of users, the development team is simultaneously crafting features like AI-generated thumbnails, refined natural language search prompts, and deeper integration with Alexa. Although the core search functionality and top-tier promotional slots for sporting events and new releases are expected to remain, the fundamental structure of how subscribers encounter content is undergoing a radical transition.
