Developed in partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney Consumer Products, the exhibition traces the evolution of the galaxy from analog craftsmanship to digital frontiers. Visitors will encounter rare props, including Darth Vader’s costume and Darth Maul’s lightsaber, alongside droids like R2-D2 and C-3PO. The installation features specialized environments such as a recreation of Queen Amidala’s Throne Room and a "Wireframe Worlds" gallery dedicated to early vehicle design sketches.
Philadelphia to Host Star Wars 50th Anniversary Exhibition
The Franklin Institute will launch an immersive journey through the franchise’s history starting February 13, 2027. Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, the exhibition serves as the flagship event for the 50th anniversary of the saga, blending original screen-used artifacts with interactive technology across 18,000 square feet of gallery space.
Technology plays a central role in the visitor experience. RFID-enabled tracking allows guests to align with the Force, creating personalized interactions that shape their path through the galleries. A dedicated "Carbon Freeze Capture" station enables fans to step into a recreation of the iconic scene from The Empire Strikes Back. The tour concludes with a comprehensive look at five decades of toy manufacturing, displaying over 90 collectible figures and rare prototypes from Kenner and Hasbro. Following its run in Philadelphia, which concludes September 6, 2027, the exhibition will embark on a five-year North American tour.
