Leapfrog Group Hits Milestone With Record Healthcare Facility Ratings

More than 6,000 hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers across the United States have submitted data for the 2026 Leapfrog Group ratings, marking the highest level of voluntary participation in the nonprofit’s 26-year history. This surge in reporting covers over 80 percent of all inpatient beds nationwide, signaling a shift toward industry-wide transparency.

The 2026 data release arrives alongside the debut of Leapfrog’s ASC Public Reporting Program, designed to provide patients with clearer insights into the safety and quality of outpatient surgery centers. These facilities, which now handle the majority of surgical procedures in the U.S., previously lacked standardized, accessible performance data. By voluntarily sharing information on patient rights, ethics, and hand hygiene, participants are setting a new standard for public accountability.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, noted that the record participation confirms transparency has become the norm rather than the exception in American healthcare. Growth was bolstered by regional business coalitions that urged local facilities to submit performance metrics. To further incentivize comprehensive reporting, Leapfrog introduced the Full Transparency Badge this year, awarded to organizations that complete every section of the survey. Publicly reported results remain available free of charge and are updated monthly, with late submissions for the 2026 cycle accepted through November 30.
