Duke Energy Commits $1 Million to North Carolina Nonprofit Network
The Duke Energy Foundation is deploying $1 million in new grants to support over 50 nonprofit organizations across North Carolina. The funding aims to bolster essential services for families and seniors, addressing critical gaps in housing stability, food security, and home repair as utility costs fluctuate during the summer months.
Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy's North Carolina president, emphasized that the initiative is designed to meet residents where they are, providing practical relief when energy usage and household expenses peak. The move builds on a decade-long financial commitment from the company, which has funneled more than $65 million into state-wide community support since 2016. This total includes $34.6 million for general nonprofit programs and $31 million specifically dedicated to utility-bill assistance via the Share the Light and Share the Warmth funds.
