The system addresses rising safety standards, such as the Euro NCAP 2026 protocols, which prioritize minimizing driver distraction. By combining a focus-free augmented reality head-up display with proprietary Hover Screen technology, the unit projects critical data like ADAS alerts and navigation cues directly into the driver’s line of sight. Secondary information, including climate controls and media, appears on a large virtual screen at a focal distance of 1.2 meters.
LG UltraView Windshield Display Reaches PACE Pilot Award Finals
LG Electronics has secured a spot as a finalist for the 2026 Automotive News PACE Pilot Award with its UltraView Windshield Display. The technology, designed for the software-defined vehicle era, integrates augmented reality and virtual screen projection to centralize driver information while eliminating the need for fragmented, multi-screen cockpit layouts.

This hybrid optical architecture offers a 25-by-7-degree field of view within a compact 15-liter package. When disabled, the display disappears completely, leaving the windshield clear of the black masking often associated with traditional HUDs. According to market research firm Omdia, global demand for head-up display systems is expected to surge from 10.21 million units in 2025 to 25.27 million by 2032, positioning LG’s innovation at the forefront of a shifting automotive landscape. Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle Solution Company, noted that the recognition validates the company's push to streamline in-cabin experiences as automakers transition away from simply increasing the number of screens in modern vehicles.
