Monport Targets Small Business Growth With 70W Desktop Laser

For entrepreneurs outgrowing hobbyist-grade equipment, the jump to industrial machinery often brings prohibitive costs and space requirements. Monport is attempting to bridge this gap with its new MEGAS desktop CO2 laser, a 70W unit engineered to handle higher order volumes while retaining a compact footprint suitable for home studios.

Many small-scale manufacturers find themselves bottlenecked by entry-level machines that lack the speed and work area necessary to scale. The MEGAS addresses these constraints with a 700 x 350 mm bed and engraving speeds reaching 600 mm/s. By providing a 0.05–0.08 mm spot size, the system allows for the intricate detailing required by Etsy sellers, sign makers, and custom gift shops without demanding the specialized electrical infrastructure of a full-scale factory setup.

Operational flexibility remains a core focus of the hardware. The machine runs on M-Design Hub, which offers AI-assisted image processing for beginners, while also supporting LightBurn for experienced users who require advanced control. Features such as autofocus and an integrated camera for design placement aim to reduce the manual labor typically associated with batch production. Monport, based in Seattle, is currently positioning the unit as a middle-ground solution for businesses looking to expand their product lines into wood, acrylic, and leather goods without moving to industrial-grade floor models.
