K2 Space Hits $6.8B Valuation to Mass-Produce Heavy Satellites

K2 Space has secured $500 million in Series D funding, pushing its valuation to $6.8 billion. The Torrance-based manufacturer plans to leverage the capital to scale production of its large, high-power satellite platforms, aiming to build up to 100 units annually for commercial and national security missions.

Founded four years ago by Karan and Neel Kunjur, the company has now raised over $1 billion in total capital. The funding round was co-led by Kleiner Perkins and ICONIQ, with participation from CapitalG, Lightspeed, and ARK Invest. Investors are betting on the company's vertically integrated model, which produces 85% of its satellite components in-house, as a solution to the growing demand for increased power and mass in orbit.

The company has already secured more than $1 billion in contracts, including the meoSphere network for SES and the Golden Dome missile defense program with Anduril. Additionally, K2 Space was selected as the bus provider for the Space Force’s Protected Tactical Satcom-Global program. To meet these obligations, the firm operates a 180,000-square-foot factory in California, designed to streamline the manufacturing process for its high-payload vehicles.

Looking toward future infrastructure, CTO Neel Kunjur announced plans for a 100kW Giga-class satellite slated for the second half of 2028. This platform is intended to support massive on-orbit compute capabilities. Before that milestone, the company prepares for its upcoming Trinity mission, scheduled to launch multiple satellites in the second quarter of 2027.
