By leveraging proprietary targeting technologies from the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, CREATE intends to gain finer control over how therapeutic payloads reach specific immune cells. Under the terms, CREATE secures a worldwide exclusive license for intellectual property developed during the research program, while Monash receives research funding along with future milestone and royalty payments.
CREATE Medicines Taps Monash University for Targeted LNP Tech
To solve the persistent challenge of precise cell-type-specific delivery, Cambridge-based CREATE Medicines has entered a strategic partnership with Monash University. The collaboration grants the biotech firm exclusive access to advanced lipid nanoparticle chemistries and novel binder formats, aiming to accelerate the development of next-generation in vivo CAR therapies.

Daniel Getts, CEO of CREATE, noted that the partnership allows the company to apply its existing platform to a broader range of targets. The research team at Monash will be spearheaded by Professor Angus Johnston, an expert in nanoparticle delivery, alongside Professor Colin Pouton and Dr. Moore Chen. Their work builds on a 2025 Nature Nanotechnology paper that pioneered new methods for targeted mRNA delivery. Monash Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharon Pickering emphasized that the deal highlights the university's strategy of connecting its Australian research infrastructure directly with Boston’s biotech ecosystem to expedite the translation of lab discoveries into clinical cancer treatments.
