GigaMedia Swings to Profit on Gaming Collaboration and Robotics Pivot

Taipei-based GigaMedia reported a net income of $0.55 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking a sharp recovery from the $0.88 million loss recorded in the previous quarter. The turnaround was driven by a successful intellectual property collaboration and a strategic shift in its robotics investment portfolio.

The company’s revenue climbed to $2.13 million, a 182.3% increase quarter-on-quarter, as the firm capitalized on a licensed gaming project in Hong Kong. This performance helped narrow the operating loss to $0.10 million, down significantly from $0.95 million in the first quarter of the year. CEO James Huang stated that the company intends to sustain this momentum by deepening user engagement throughout the second half of 2026.

Beyond gaming, GigaMedia restructured its financial standing through its relationship with Aeolus Robotics Corporation. By converting corporate bonds into preferred shares, GigaMedia secured a 33.35% stake in the R&D firm, which focuses on elderly-care and patrol robotics. This reclassification boosted the investment's book value to $12.67 million and contributed a $0.37 million gain from a deemed disposal, bolstering the company's total cash and equivalents to $29.0 million.
