Blue Cross Blue Shield Offers Free Bluebikes Credit for Wellness Month

Residents across Metro Boston can claim a $15 credit for the Bluebikes share system throughout August, an initiative launched by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts to mark National Wellness Month and encourage active transportation across the 13 municipalities served by the network.

Starting August 3, users can redeem the credit by entering the code BCBSMAWELLNESS in the rewards section of the Bluebikes mobile application. The funds apply to both classic cycles and ebikes available at any of the 600 stations spanning communities from Arlington to Salem. Once applied to an account, the credit remains valid for one year, allowing riders to spread the balance across multiple trips or use it for a single journey.

Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship at Blue Cross, noted that the program aims to promote the physical and mental health benefits associated with regular movement. This effort aligns with data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which highlights how consistent physical activity contributes to lower blood pressure and improved sleep quality. Since assuming the role of title sponsor in 2018, Blue Cross has facilitated access to a system that has logged more than 25 million total rides across its regional footprint.
