Construction on the site is scheduled to begin later this year. Beyond its role in the regional grid, the project acts as a significant economic engine for McCurtain County. Projections indicate the solar farm will generate $24.3 million in local economic activity during construction, accompanied by $1.4 million in state and local tax revenue. Once the facility comes online, it is expected to contribute approximately $25 million in long-term funding toward county programs, emergency services, and the Broken Bow School District.
Google secures 155 MW from RWE’s new Oklahoma solar plant
Google has committed to a 15-year power purchase agreement for the entire output of RWE’s Crooked Creek Solar project in McCurtain County. The 155-megawatt facility, slated for commercial operation in 2028, will supply energy to Google’s operations within the Southwest Power Pool market while anchoring local economic growth.
Ingmar Ritzenhofen, Chief Commercial Officer at RWE Americas, noted that the deal reflects a surging demand for domestically produced, reliable energy. For Google, the partnership is part of a broader strategy to stabilize grid infrastructure. Will Conkling, the company’s Director of Energy and Power, stated that the project adds critical new generation to the local system, increasing the availability of affordable power for the entire region. RWE currently maintains a significant footprint in Oklahoma, including the 148 MW Boiling Springs wind project, with an additional 1.6 GW of capacity currently in various stages of development.
