Antero Secures First-Ever Jersey Patch Sponsorship for WVU Athletics

West Virginia University will feature the Antero logo on all 18 varsity sports jerseys starting in the 2026-2027 season. The five-year deal marks the first time in school history that a corporate sponsor has secured a patch placement on Mountaineer uniforms, signaling a deepening commercial tie between the state’s largest gas producer and its flagship university.

The partnership extends beyond branding, as Antero integrates its logo into the home and away kits for both men’s and women’s programs. Michael Kennedy, CEO of Antero Resources and Antero Midstream, framed the move as a continuation of the company's long-term investment strategy in Appalachian communities. This agreement follows a significant $4 million donation in 2023 to the university’s Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, which funded specialized graduate programs and scholarships.

WVU Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker described the collaboration as a milestone for the department. With more than 500 student-athletes across the university, the deal provides Antero with expansive marketing visibility across all athletic channels. For the energy company, which produces nearly half of West Virginia’s natural gas, the sponsorship acts as the latest pillar in a multi-billion dollar commitment to the region, reinforcing its role as a primary economic driver in the state.
