The transition brings one of Colorado's longest-standing cannabis brands under the management of Verdant, which intends to scale the business while maintaining the existing Native Roots name. Founded in 2009, the retail chain has established a significant footprint in the state, a reputation Verdant CEO Julian Michalowski plans to leverage through increased investment in staff and expanded product offerings.
Josh Ginsberg, a principal at Verdant and co-founder of the original Native Roots brand, described the acquisition as a move to preserve the company's legacy while professionalizing its retail operations. The deal serves as the inaugural step in Verdant’s broader strategy to acquire and operate cannabis retail businesses in regulated markets nationwide, prioritizing disciplined capital allocation and standardized customer experiences across all its future locations.
