Mourant Secures MML Capital Investment to Fuel AI and Talent Growth

London-based private equity house MML has acquired a minority stake in Mourant, marking another shift as professional services firms increasingly turn to outside capital. The advisory firm, which operates across nine global financial centers, plans to channel the undisclosed funding into AI systems and long-term career development programs.

Existing owner-managers will retain control of the business, with current leadership remaining in place. Mourant CEO Jonathan Rigby noted that the partnership is designed to accelerate the firm's existing strategic goals rather than alter its direction. The deal includes a co-investment from Mourant’s own leadership team, reinforcing their commitment to the firm’s integrated services model.

This transaction aligns with a broader trend of private equity flowing into the legal and wealth management sectors. While UK law firm deal values have fluctuated—dropping from a record £534 million in 2024—the volume of transactions has steadily climbed. Mourant, which manages operations across jurisdictions including the Cayman Islands, Jersey, and Luxembourg, was advised by a team including Rothschild & Co and PwC, while MML relied on counsel from Baird and Pinsent Masons.
