The project serves as the company's 12th venture in Texas and is co-located with the existing 430 MW Old 300 Solar farm. While the solar facility has powered roughly 80,000 homes since 2024, the new battery system operates independently to stabilize the grid by discharging energy when it is needed most. Combined, these assets are projected to contribute $110 million in property tax revenue to local schools and emergency services.
Ørsted Brings 250 MW Battery Storage Online in Needville
A new 250 MW battery storage facility has officially joined the Texas power grid in Needville, marking a significant expansion for Ørsted. The Old 300 Storage project, now fully operational, aims to bolster grid reliability and manage supply fluctuations across the ERCOT market during periods of peak demand.
For the technology backbone, Ørsted sourced Tesla Megapacks manufactured in Lathrop, California. To manage local safety concerns, the companies worked directly with the Needville Fire Department to establish response protocols for the utility-scale hardware. This addition brings Ørsted’s total operating U.S. onshore portfolio to 6 GW, reinforcing its position as a major multi-technology power producer in the region.
