Air Force Taps Intellisense Systems for Nuclear Flash Protection
The U.S. Air Force has secured an $8.22 million contract with Torrance-based Intellisense Systems to engineer next-generation goggles designed to shield flight crews from the blinding glare and retinal damage caused by nuclear detonations, replacing the aging EEU-2A/P systems currently in service across the military.
Funding for the initial phases includes $564,497 from fiscal years 2025 and 2026 research and development appropriations. While the contract covers both engineering development and low-rate initial production, the scope reflects broader congressional interest in modernizing defensive equipment for nuclear-capable environments. Intellisense Systems will leverage its existing ISO-certified manufacturing infrastructure to move from prototype development to final field-ready hardware.
