Eric van der Valk, President and CEO of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, noted that the survey mirrors the shifting landscape observed within their 672 locations across 35 states. With 84% of respondents confirming that inflation has actively damaged their personal finances, the reliance on off-price outlets has shifted from a preference to a necessity. Customers are increasingly scrutinizing prices across categories ranging from groceries and gasoline to footwear and dining.
Inflation Drives Surge in Bargain Hunting Habits
Eighty-five percent of shoppers report extreme concern over rising costs, according to a new survey of 60,000 Ollie’s Army loyalty members. As National Bargain Hunting Week begins, the data highlights how persistent inflation has fundamentally altered consumer behavior, forcing families to prioritize discount retailers and stockpile essentials to manage household budgets.

Beyond simple necessity, the survey identifies a strong social component to discount shopping. Approximately 82% of respondents report sharing their bargain discoveries with friends and family, turning budget-conscious shopping into a communal activity. To capitalize on these trends during the week-long event running through August 16, the retailer continues to leverage its closeout model, which promises brand-name merchandise at prices up to 70% lower than traditional competitors.
