The evening, themed around the true cost of freedom during the nation’s 250th anniversary, turned financial contributions into immediate aid. AWI CEO Louise Thaxton and guest speaker Karen Vaughn addressed the crowd on the necessity of converting public gratitude into tangible support for those who have defended the country. AWI Gala Surpasses Fundraising Goal to Provide 27 Service Dogs
Two hundred and fifty guests gathered at The Edgewater Hotel in Madison on August 6 to raise over $410,000 for the American Warrior Initiative. The total exceeded the event's target, securing full funding for 27 service dogs destined for veterans and first responders coping with the physical and mental toll of service.

Emotional outcomes defined the night as several attendees received unexpected news regarding their own service dog placements. Marine Corps veteran Troy Mitchell was surprised on stage with his new dog, Webster, while Dane County Sheriff's deputies Jody Hager and Mike Mohr discovered that the puppy they had been training, Dream, would remain in their care. Additional recipients, including Army nurse Carla Monday and Vietnam veteran Steve Kielley, were confirmed for the upcoming matching process. The auction featured support from former Green Bay Packers players, helping push the final tally well past the $375,000 goal.
