Dr. Ovchinsky joined the health system in 2023, quickly establishing the Pediatric Liver Transplant Program at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital. Her work transformed the division into a primary regional referral hub for complex gastrointestinal disorders. Alec C. Kimmelman, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Health, noted that her leadership will be essential as the institution continues to expand its pediatric footprint, which currently spans over 100 ambulatory locations and 201 system-wide beds.
Nadia Ovchinsky Named Chair of Pediatrics at NYU Langone
After doubling the size of the pediatric gastroenterology division and launching a specialized liver transplant program, Dr. Nadia Ovchinsky has been appointed chair of the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, stepping into a role previously held for 17 years by Dr. Catherine S. Manno.
In this elevated capacity, she will oversee a vast clinical network that handles more than 608,000 outpatient visits annually. Beyond clinical operations, Dr. Ovchinsky plans to integrate research initiatives like the Sala Elbaum Pediatric Research Scholars Program into the department’s core mission. She will collaborate closely with regional leads, including Dr. Arun Chopra at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, to maintain a unified standard of care across the system. Her predecessor, Dr. Manno, is credited with launching the Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care before her retirement in 2025.
