Global Data Center UPS Market Projected to Hit $30.7 Billion by 2031

The global market for uninterruptible power supply systems in data centers is set to more than double over the next six years, reaching a valuation of $30.74 billion by 2031 as artificial intelligence workloads drive an unprecedented demand for high-capacity, resilient power infrastructure across hyperscale facilities.

According to research from Arizton, the sector is experiencing a compound annual growth rate of 13.69%, fueled by a surge in rack power densities. As AI and high-performance computing clusters move beyond traditional power requirements—often exceeding 100 kW per rack compared to the historical 5–15 kW standard—operators are aggressively pivoting toward modular designs and advanced battery technologies. North America remains the dominant investment hub, projected to capture 48% of the global market share by 2031, with significant expansion concentrated in key U.S. clusters like Northern Virginia and Silicon Valley.

The shift is fundamentally changing how facilities manage energy, with lithium-ion systems emerging as the preferred solution over traditional VRLA batteries due to their superior energy density and smaller physical footprint. Investment in lithium-ion technology alone is expected to climb to $16.29 billion by 2031. Beyond battery chemistry, the industry is increasingly integrating UPS hardware with onsite microgrids and predictive AI-driven analytics. This evolution is designed to handle the dynamic, variable loads characteristic of modern AI environments, ensuring that critical operations maintain N+1 redundancy even as they scale to meet an estimated global capacity of 28,307 MW by the end of the forecast period.
