Costa’s appointment marks a strategic pivot for StrongMind, a provider of K–12 digital curriculum. Rather than treating artificial intelligence as a bolt-on feature, the company aims to embed AI directly into its development lifecycle. CEO Damian Creamer noted that Costa has already begun laying the infrastructure for the next decade of product delivery, emphasizing a focus on accredited curriculum supported by real-time teacher oversight.
StrongMind Taps Former Google and Epic Games Engineer as CTO
With a mandate to transition StrongMind into an AI-native education company, Rui Costa has joined the Chandler-based firm as Chief Technology Officer. Bringing a decade of experience from Google, AWS, and Epic Games, Costa is tasked with unifying the company's fragmented software stack onto a single, scalable platform.

During his tenure at Google, Costa developed the Speech Analysis Framework, while his time at Epic Games involved scaling developer tools for millions of daily users. He has already applied this background to StrongMind, covering 12 of 13 domains in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation’s capability model within ninety days. His immediate roadmap includes completing an identity platform migration across 153 applications and retiring legacy systems to ensure that all future products—including the upcoming StrongMind Homeschool and CoursePro offerings—operate on a standardized, monitored architecture.
