His clinical background includes a focus on immunotherapy, molecular profiling, and gastrointestinal cancers, supported by a research portfolio that earned him the McGlothlin Foundation Fellows to Faculty Award and the Linda Rubin Fellowship in Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Ellery Altshuler Joins Virginia Cancer Specialists in Fairfax
The Fairfax Cancer Center is expanding its clinical team with the addition of medical oncologist Ellery Altshuler, MD. Starting September 14, 2026, Dr. Altshuler will begin seeing patients, bringing specialized expertise in hematology and oncology to Northern Virginia’s largest private practice during a period of sustained regional growth.

Timothy McCarthy, a medical oncologist at the Fairfax location, noted that the hire addresses the rising demand for oncology services across Fairfax County. Dr. Altshuler joins a multidisciplinary team at a practice recently ranked as the top physician group in Virginia by Castle Connolly Top Doctors. Beyond standard treatment, he will participate in the practice's extensive clinical trials portfolio, which operates in collaboration with the Sarah Cannon Research Institute and the US Oncology Network.
