Sterling joins M&G with 15 years of investment experience, nine of which are dedicated specifically to the Japanese market. Reporting to Carl Vine, he will oversee stock selection and portfolio construction. Previously, Sterling held a similar role at TT International and served as a portfolio manager at the Universities Superannuation Scheme, where he oversaw a £2.5 billion Japanese equities portfolio. Vine noted that Sterling’s appointment is intended to sharpen the firm’s focus on long-term client outcomes through differentiated investment theses.
Leadership Shifts at M&G and St. James’s Place
Investment veteran Ross Sterling has joined M&G as deputy portfolio manager for its Japanese equities strategy, while St. James’s Place has bolstered its advisor network by recruiting four senior financial representatives from major UK firms, marking a significant expansion for both wealth management institutions.
Simultaneously, St. James’s Place has integrated four experienced advisors into its network of nearly 5,000 professionals. Larry Yesufu, Matthew Kemp, Mitchell Hough, and Richard Woods have transitioned their respective practices to SJP from firms including Quilter, Skipton Building Society, NFU Mutual, and Nationwide. These additions bring decades of combined expertise in retirement, estate, and tax planning, expanding SJP’s footprint across North London, Dorset, the South West, and Suffolk. The move underscores a broader trend of consolidation among independent financial practices under larger wealth management umbrellas.
