Founded in 1930, Grand Appliance has evolved from a local shop into one of the Midwest’s largest independent retailers. The company currently manages 31 storefronts and five distribution hubs spanning Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. Its operations cater to a diverse base of builders, contractors, and retail consumers, a footprint that proved pivotal in the acquisition.
Grand Appliance Acquired by R&B Wholesale Distributors
After 94 years as a family-owned business, Midwestern appliance retailer Grand Appliance has been sold to R&B Wholesale Distributors. The transaction, managed by financial advisor Mesirow, integrates the regional powerhouse into a national distribution platform backed by private equity firm Platinum Equity.

Anish Gauri, CEO of Grand Appliance, noted that the partnership allows the firm to scale its reach while maintaining the operational culture established over four generations. For R&B Wholesale Distributors, a firm already dominant in the Southwestern U.S. market, the move represents a significant expansion into the Midwest. Mesirow’s involvement in the deal underscores the firm's active role in the supply chain and distribution sector, where it has completed over 350 transactions in recent years.
