Smack Technologies Secures $61 Million for Tactical AI

Austin-based Smack Technologies has closed a $61 million Series B round, pushing its total funding past $90 million to accelerate the deployment of its proprietary tactical AI. Led by Costanoa Ventures and First In, the capital will fuel the development of hardware designed to bring decision-support systems to the front lines.

The company’s flagship platform, Alpha, is engineered to operate in communication-constrained and low-compute environments where standard commercial large language models fail. By focusing on physics-based reasoning rather than general-purpose language processing, Smack aims to provide warfighters with machine-speed decision support. While the firm’s Omega platform handles strategic planning at the command level, Alpha is intended to decentralize that intelligence, allowing distributed forces to maintain operational coherence when disconnected from central networks.

CEO Andy Markoff emphasized that the goal is to integrate human judgment only where strategically vital, automating the rest to achieve what the company calls Decision Dominance. Beyond software development, the firm plans to use the new funding to build specialized hardware and recruit additional research talent. Investors, including Point72 Ventures and Sapphire Ventures, are banking on the company’s ability to capture tacit military expertise and translate it into models capable of functioning under fire, effectively bridging the gap between command-level logic and tactical execution.
