While the company’s retail arm—comprising 234 company-owned stores—showed resilience through increased design sales and higher conversion rates, these gains were partially offset by softer wholesale demand. CEO Melinda D. Whittington noted that the 3% rise in same-store sales underscores the brand's ability to navigate a volatile consumer environment. The firm is currently executing a multi-year distribution transformation and recently concluded production at one of its two scheduled manufacturing plant closures.
La-Z-Boy Retail Growth Outpaces Wholesale Slump in Fiscal Q1
La-Z-Boy Incorporated reported a 16% surge in written sales for its retail segment during the first quarter of fiscal 2027, even as broader consolidated revenue dipped 3% to $476 million. The furniture giant faced a GAAP net loss of $2.3 million, largely weighed down by one-time costs from plant closures.
Adjusted earnings per share stood at $0.43, excluding significant charges linked to supply chain optimization and the divestiture of its wholesale casegoods business. Despite the consolidated sales decline, the company remains active in shareholder returns, distributing $35 million through dividends and buybacks during the quarter. Looking ahead to the second fiscal quarter, management projects sales between $500 million and $520 million, maintaining a cautious outlook on macroeconomic pressures while continuing to invest in digital and physical store expansion.
