Minesto Reports Progress in Tidal Energy Commercialization

Swedish tidal energy developer Minesto reported significant operational milestones in its 2026 half-year report, highlighting record-breaking electricity generation in the Faroe Islands and a strategic pivot toward commercial readiness. The company narrowed its operating loss while expanding its international footprint through new board appointments and industry accolades.

During the first six months of 2026, Minesto verified sustained electricity production performance, moving its Dragon technology closer to full-scale commercial viability. A key driver of this progress was the deployment of an upgraded power-take-off system at the Vestmannasund site, which successfully increased energy yield while reducing overall system costs. These production volumes have reached levels necessary for the financial modeling of future tidal project investments, providing a foundation for ongoing commercial discussions with global stakeholders.

To support its international expansion, the company appointed Philippe Kavafyan, a veteran of the offshore wind industry, to its Board of Directors. Operationally, Minesto has shifted its service model to integrate installation and maintenance into specific customer delivery projects, utilizing local resources to enhance flexibility. While the company recorded an operating loss of SEK 15.4 million for the period, it maintained a strong focus on capitalised development, with intangible assets rising to SEK 588.4 million. The company's efforts also gained significant visibility as its marketing initiative, the Faroe Islands Space Program, secured the Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
